“At the beginning, I gave Jozef what seemed to be a simple task: I needed to assess the tax aspects of a transaction that, at first glance, appeared quick and straightforward. However, as we moved toward execution, many unexpected questions and complications emerged, including tax issues and risks that needed to be addressed in real time. “I have known Jozef for almost 20 years now. We worked jointly, for instance, on the amendment to the Slovak Income Tax Act which should have changed the rules for taxation of various kinds of income derived from securities. This topic has not been addressed for a long time as individuals who invest in securities do not have their lobby group to defend their interests. We have seen various anomalies when the gross income derived from two similar investments bears significantly different tax burden. Jozef proposed a very elegant solution that was simple and comprehensive (unlike many tendentious amendments covering only a particular individual problem). “I worked with Jozef very closely for 15 years in his position of General Tax Counsel to Penta.
